Rotary Screw Trap

This year (2026) QVIR Environmental Department staff assisted California Department of Fish and Wildlife with juvenile salmonid monitoring on the Scott River rotary screw trap.

The trap consists of a large rotating cone that pulls juvenile fish inside an enclosed holding tank, where they are kept until CDFW staff counts, marks, and releases them. Constant monitoring is essential in tracking trends and patterns across salmonid species and determining whether riparian restoration plans are needed.
